Despite being a bunch of polygons, I still have a weird bond with that pet and always wanna use him for solo content that I need a tank for. In March 2020, the team created several character concepts that fit with an ‘Oceanic/Beach’ theme, as at the time, we were considering development of another act within that environmental theme. For instance, I always, ALWAYS level with the same black bear I tamed as a fresh faced orc hunter years ago. While the Cursed Captain is the newest class to hit Torchlight III, its initial conception goes back more than a year. Originally they required feeding and care to keep their happiness up, but even now that all of that is gone, I often find myself using the same group of pets for the tasks I undertake in game. The Hunter, on the other hand, is more about the unique bond you create with your smaller group of pets. Seeing your army of undead crawling across the maps and dungeons of Diablo 2 gives you a real sense of power that hasn't really been matched for me. The D2 Necro is a great starter character due to it's fairly easy gear requirements to set up and get rolling.
They both settle into two very unique archetypes, and also happen to be the pet classes I have the most experience with. To me, the two essential pet classes in RPGs are Diablo 2's Necromancer, and World of Warcraft's Hunter.
